Publics: Imaginative, Speculative, Performative
Our experience of the streets and squares in different forms of protest for which well-known definitions around public space have stopped being sufficent has made ‘What is public?’ acquire another sort of vitality. Co-habitation and the new possibilities of imagining living together enforce a new and delicate horizon. Engagement with the publics in the context of contemporary art, on the other hand, has already developed into new departments and programs for institutions. Övül Ö. Durmusoglu will make a brief cross analysis of her three different curatorial engagements of working with the publics in dOCUMENTA (13) as a discursive expansion, Sofia Contemporary 2013 as a search for infrastructure, and 13th Istanbul Biennial as a future agenda for imagination and ask the question what Gezi changed in her perception of the publics.
