My studio visit. The city as studio

We will meet at La Llotja de Mar, in Pla de Palau, to visit the first school of fine arts in the city: La Reial Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi. During the visit we will ‘dust off’ a past time, a time that seems to have stopped at the beginning of the 20th century, when art studies moved to the University. Throughout its legacy we will immerse ourselves in its archives, its books, objects, pieces, drawings, photographs, personal legacies… In addition, we will contemplate a collection arranged as a cabinet of curiosities that expands by its enormous salons and we approach ‘the shadows’ that we have been investigating with Abel Jaramillo in order to make the publication that accompanies the residence.

‘El archivo de las sombras’ is a publication made with Abel Jaramillo which takes shape in eight written stories. The stories correspond to pieces or objects that are in the archives of the Acadèmia and that have aroused our interest for different reasons. The publication contains writings about them, but in any case their images, because they have to be consulted by visiting the institution in order to be able to contemplate the originals. This project is accompanied by an audio track that aims to approach the archive from the voice perspective. It will only be available during the last 15 days of the residency.
