Bricks and Sequins
My studio visit. The city as studio
Saturday 6th of February, 16h-18h
Book by sending an email with the subject “Route bricks and sequins” to: kimete@hotmail.com We will wander through the streets in downtown Barcelona and stop at the sites where the most famous cabarets used to be located: La Criolla, Wu-Li-Chang, Cabaret de la Muerte, Barcelona de Noche, La Cúpula Venus, La Bodega Bohemia… The walk will be an excuse for telling the stories of the artists who performed there and also many anecdotes from other variety show artists who visited the city. Far from any kind of nostalgia, this talk-stroll will speculate about the potential of this past nowadays.
Variety Show Archive
Zoom Saturday 27th February, 18.30h-20.00h
In order to get the meeting’s link send an email with the subject “Variety Show Archive” to kimete@hotmail.com
In this Zoom session Quim will share documents from his variety show archive dating from the mid- 18th century until almost the end of the 20th. These documents consist of stereoscopic pictures, photographs, postcards, mute films, audio recordings and fragments from documentaries and TV shows. This showing will be commented live as a continuation of the talk-stroll “Bricks and sequins”, that is, it will interrogate the relevance of these materials nowadays. At the end of the session, the artist will show some performance experiments inspired by this archive and developed over the duration of the residency.
