Philippe Pirotte

Philippe Pirotte (1972), is an art historian, critic and curator based in Antwerp, Belgium. He was the director of the Städelschule, the prestigious art school located in Frankfurt, Germany 2014-2020, where he still teaches art history and curatorial studies. Pirotte also led the Portikus, an exhibition space for contemporary art connected to the institution. Between 2005 and 2011, Pirotte was the director of the Kunsthalle Bern, and from 2003 to 2013, he was senior advisor of the Rijksakademie for Visual Arts in Amsterdam. In 2012, he became adjunct senior curator at the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, and in 1999, he cofounded objectif_exhibitions, a not-for-profit contemporary arts center in Antwerp, Belgium.
