Valerio Del Baglivo is a freelance curator based in Italy. He  focuses on research-based artistic practices that analyse the relationship between knowledge production, institutional infrastructures and audience engagement, to address the social and political role of art. In recent years, he has curated exhibitions and projects for various organisations, including Apexart, NY, Konsthall C, Stockholm, Kunsthalle WUK, Vienna, Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin. In 2017, he initiated The Institute of Things to Come an annual thematic programme of exhibitions, performances and workshops, which uses speculative arguments to propose alternative imaginaries and positions of social criticism. Within the framework of The Institute, he curated solo shows of artists Pauline Curnier Jardin and Melanie Bonajo, Kapwani Kiwanga, Bedwyr Williams, Mikhail Karikis, Goda Palekaitė, Alex Cecchetti, Louise Hervé & Chloé Maillet and Tai Shani. In 2020, he and Sara Alberani co-founded the curatorial platform LOCALES, which promotes site-specific programmes, commissioning new artistic works, educational activities, talks and performances to explore the relationship between performative practices and art interventions in the public space. Recently, Del Baglivo was 2017 Curator in Residence and Shadow Curator at Grand Union, Birmingham; 2019 Associate External Curator at MAXXI – Museum of XXI Century for the Arts (Rome); and 2018-19 Visiting Curator of UNIDEE at Fondazione Pistoletto (Biella).
