BAR project is a curatorial initiative in movement promoting trans-disciplinary dialogue, hospitality, collaboration, and exchange among art and society. BAR project is deeply inspired, taking its name and modus operandi, from the bar, a popular and transcultural meeting place in the countries of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean, as a space of knowledge production thanks to the social relations and informal conversations it generates.<\/p>\n

BAR project arises in 2013 as a mobile and non-profit organisation founded and directed by Andrea Rodr\u00edguez Novoa, Veronica Valentini and Juan Canela (until 2021). Its project develops a roaming public program in the city of Barcelona understood as an experimental public space and commonplace for action and exhibition of durational events – such as performance, conversation, and other artistic gestures, that question current political, social, and economic subjects. These goals are achieved through residencies and pedagogical formats which results are the fruit of dialogue and exchange between local, national and international agents and the socio-cultural fabric of the city.<\/p>\n

BAR project has hosted more than 150 cultural workers, both independent and institutional, from all continents. It has collaborated with multiple spaces, projects, local and international institutions (Barcelona city council, MACBA, La Virreina Centro de la Imagen, Tapies Foundation, Bodega Armando, angels gallery, Les Laboratoires d\u2019Aubervilliers, Palais de Tokyo, SOMA Mexico, Stroom, Gwangju Biennale, etc).<\/p>\n

It has been a resident project at Fabra i Coats (2013-2020), Fundaci\u00f3n Antoni T\u00e0pies (2016-2020), and La Capella (2021-2022). Since November 2023, BAR project has been curating HAUS, Space for Contemporary Art and Practices at BAU, College for Arts and Design. This new exhibition space enables it to continue promoting transnational dialogue between the local and international art scenes from the Poblenou neighborhood through discursive, study, residency, and exhibition programs.<\/p>\n

Over the years, BAR project has received financial and in-kind support from sponsors, foundations, individuals, entreprises, institutions and local and national subsidies, such as: Esteban Bernatas, Zumzeig cinema, Fundaci\u00f3n Almayuda, ICUB Instituto de Cultura de Barcelona, Generalitat de Catalunya OSIC, Absolut Vodka, ACE Acci\u00f3n Cultural Espa\u00f1ola, Ministerio de Cultura de Espa\u00f1a, Institut Ramon Llull, Fundaci\u00f3n Banco Santander (Emplea Cultura Grant), Hangar, Fabra i Coats, Fundaci\u00f3n Antoni T\u00e0pies, La Virreina Centro de la Imagen, Tiro al Blanco gallery, among others.<\/p>\n

Thanks to them, together with paid educational programmes, it has been possible to finance the activities and the work of the project’s agents, organisers and collaborators. Luciana Della Villa, Alessa Alcantara, Marina Mart\u00ednez Verges, Alba Vilamala, Helena P\u00e9rez, Amaryllis Zachariadou, Silvia Sorini, Sara Agudo Millan, Gloria Fern\u00e1ndez Mac\u00edas have been collaborators of BAR project.<\/p>\n
