In the Meantime Nothing Happens
IN THE MEANTIME NOTHING HAPPENS
A new residency programme by Fundación Camila Cañeque × BAR project
Fundación Camila Cañeque and BAR project are pleased to announce the launch of In the Meantime Nothing Happens, a new international residency programme based at Mas Verd, in the Empordà region of Catalonia.
The programme emerges from Fundación Camila Cañeque’s commitment to preserving, studying and activating the legacy of an artist whose work opened a singular territory between performance, installation, writing, image-making and critical thought. Through residencies, grants, publications and research initiatives, the Foundation seeks to generate new contexts for artistic inquiry and dialogue while fostering contemporary practices that resonate with the questions embedded in Camila Cañeque’s work.
Conceived as a space for research, reflection and exchange, In the Meantime Nothing Happens supports artistic, curatorial, writing and research-based practices grounded in critical thinking, conceptual exploration and open-ended inquiry.
Its title is borrowed from a work by Camila Cañeque, which itself quotes Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot: “In the meantime nothing happens.” Here, the phrase does not suggest inactivity, but an open interval. A time in which attention, thought and perception can unfold beyond conventional expectations of productivity.
Taking this premise as a point of departure, the residency proposes pause as a working methodology. It offers time and conditions for research, experimentation and reflection, particularly for practices that benefit from focused attention, contextual exchange and professional dialogue rather than conventional production infrastructures.
Located in a landscape that encourages concentration, slowness and sustained attention, Mas Verd offers a setting for independent work while remaining connected to wider artistic and cultural contexts through professional encounters and exchanges across Barcelona and Catalonia.
In 2026, the programme unfolds through two complementary residency formats: one by invitation and one through an international open call.

Fundación Camila Cañeque and BAR project are delighted to welcome French artist and performer Carole Douillard as the first invited resident of In the Meantime Nothing Happens.
For more than two decades, Douillard has developed a practice centred on presence as a sculptural form, creating subtle interventions that transform relationships between bodies, spectatorship and public space. Her work often unfolds through performance, documents, images, texts and archival research.
Her projects have been presented internationally at institutions including Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Fondation Pernod Ricard, CA2M Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, and the Lyon and Oslo Biennials, among others. Since 2019, she has been conducting research in Los Angeles around the archives of Susan Sontag and the history of feminist gesture and performance in California.
Her longstanding interest in attention, observation and forms of presence that resist the logic of spectacle resonates closely with the conceptual framework of In the Meantime Nothing Happens.
Carole Douillard’s residency at Mas Verd will take place from 20 June to 31 July 2026.
